Candle Care 101: How to Make Your Candles Last Longer

A beautifully scented candle can transform any room into a sanctuary of calm and warmth. But to truly get the most out of your candle, a little care goes a long way. Follow these simple tips to extend the life of your candles and enjoy every last drop of fragrance.

 1. Trim the Wick Before Every Burn

Always trim your wick to about 5mm (¼ inch) before lighting. A trimmed wick ensures a cleaner, more even burn and prevents excessive soot or flickering. Use a wick trimmer or small scissors for best results.

 2. Allow a Full Melt Pool on the First Burn

The first burn is the most important. Let your candle burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt from edge to edge. This prevents "tunneling" — where the candle burns straight down the middle, wasting wax on the sides.

 3. Don't Burn for Too Long

Avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Extended burns can cause the wick to move or bend, leading to uneven burning and overheating of the glass jar.

 4. Keep Away from Drafts

Place your candle away from open windows, fans, or air vents. Drafts cause uneven burning, excessive dripping, and can even be a fire hazard.

 5. Store Candles Properly

When not in use, store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UV rays can fade the color and weaken the fragrance over time. Keep the lid on to protect the scent.

 6. Repurpose the Jar

Once your candle has burned down to the last 1cm of wax, it's time to retire it safely. Clean out the remaining wax with warm water and repurpose the beautiful jar as a storage container, vase, or desk organizer.
